Monster Reds

8/31/00

Scott, Bob and I left the condo at about 6:00 A.M. and had breakfast at Island Cafe.   Bought six dozen piggies at Port A Outfitters and headed out or Port A marina to the jetties at 7:10 A.M. Was pretty rough so we fished inside the jetty.   Totsy (a local guide) was outside the South jetty on the end, so after getting nothing inside on the south and north jetties, we went outside the south jetty too.   We anchored down from Totsy, but got nothing.   When Totsy moved, we moved into his spot.   Immediately got hits and began catching oversized reds.   We got at least 10 monster reds,   We measured a few of them.   Scott had a 42” and I had a 35”, Bob had a 37”.  Scott took 40 minutes to land the 42” one and 30 minutes for another one.   I had one that ran off all my line which broke when it got to the end.   We let them all go but, because the 37” floated, we went and picked it up and tagged it. While out at the end of the South jetty, saw a HUGE school of monster reds– as big as a football field.   I have never seen anything like that.   Also there were tarpon all over the place.   A FANTASTIC day of fishing.   Used the last few piggies and called it a day at 2:30.
