Sheepshead

Sheepshead    The Sheepshead (Archosargus probatocephalus) is easily recognized by his vivid vertical bars of black and white. They also possess large, incisor like teeth which are used for making meals out of barnacles and crabs.

Most sheepshead are found around some sort of underwater structure, such as jetty rocks, pier pilings and bulkheads.

Fishermen should handle them with care as they have an array of very stout and sharp spines along the dorsal, anal, pelvic, and pectoral fins. Sheepshead are difficult to clean, but the flesh is good.
